Gacha games are popular these days. Some popular ones have millions of installs and even the smaller ones have loyal fans. These games have a specific pattern of play. The signature feature of a gacha game is the gacha element. You summon characters with in-game currency or in-game items.

It is a popular mobile RPG game featuring strategy RPG mechanics instead of the usual jRPG mechanics. That means you move units around the board to attack the bad guys. The game also includes 50 collectible characters, a multiplayer co-op mode, various special events, and competitive PvP. It seemed fairly free-to-play (F2P) friendly to us during our testing. However, we can see the argument going either way. The game is supported by a decent soundtrack, good graphics, and plenty of stuff to do. It’s not half bad.

Arknights is a hybrid of a gacha RPG and a strategy RPG. A lot of the core mechanics are similar. There is a campaign mode, various temporary events, and many characters to summon. However, the combat is a lot less JRPG and more SRPG. This game is a bit slower overall, but some people like the strategy component. The game has auto-deploy mode and a decent soundtrack. It has the same kind of allure for players as Azur Lane, and there’s a larger focus on collecting characters in this game.

It is an above-average gacha game. You will find a riff off of the popular Kantai Collection game in Japan. It features a side-scrolling shooter system and you’ll be auto-battling most of your encounters. You summon characters like normal, except every character in a World War II era ship in girl form. You form a feat of warships and beat up on the bad guys. These games have over 300 characters, thousands of things to do, and a lot of the usual gacha game fair. It has a little overwhelming user interface at first and some of the English translations are pretty bad, but overall the game is fun. You will also find a PC version of this game on Steam.

It is one of the newer gacha mobile games. The music composer and the story writer of this game are the same that did Chrono Trigger. There are a few odes to Chrono Trigger in the game, including time travel and some other story and design components. The gacha element is small. The mechanics shift a little from the traditional mobile RPG. You follow a map and engage in story missions like console JRPGs instead of the general mission-style gameplay. It’s surprisingly good, even if it’s different from most gacha games.

It is one of two Nintendo mobile RPGs games on this list. This had a bit of a rough start with some connectivity and bugs issues. But now, it seems all better. The game is based on action RPG mechanics hence a bit more active than most mobile RPGs. The character elements are not as massive as other games, but neither is Another Eden’s and it was fun. It’s very F2P friendly. The story is pretty good, and it’s an amazing and complete overall experience.

This one uses the mammoth cast of the popular Fate anime series. If you are a fan of the series, you should get a good kick out of this one. This game features an engaging storyline and soundtrack. Moreover, you get tons of units to summon, many special events, and decent, anime-style graphics. The downside is the differences between the Japanese version and the global version. The earlier version is a little further along in its development cycle. Still, Fate/Grand Order is a decent gacha game, even if you don’t know the anime series very well.

It is a strategy JRPG gacha game with loads of activities and actions. The game boasts a new chapter in the franchise’s history. But it’s not too different from Final Fantasy Record Keeper. You need to go back into history and recreate fights from Langrisser’s prior titles. You will have some decent strategy RPG play, tons of ways to upgrade, some PvE social components, and more. It does get a bit tiring the longer you play, but that’s true of all gachas so it’s nothing new.
