Want to try your luck playing European Roulette? Here’s how you can get started making bets.
European Roulette is a popular classic casino game. It’s one of those easily recognizable games found in land-based casinos. It uses a roulette wheel and a betting grid. The land-based version features a croupier spins the roulette wheel in one direction and tosses the ball on the opposite side. The online version of European Roulette allows you to spin the wheel yourself. Players will place bets on the numbered table where they think the ball will land on a particular numbered pocket.
This classic game of roulette is also called single-zero roulette. It makes use of 37 numbered pockets from 0 to 36. The European Roulette wheel is alternately colored red and black, zero is colored green. Place your bets before the wheel is spun, once you placed your bets, the ball is released to roll into the spinning wheel. When the ball lands on the number/color/combination of numbers you picked then you’re a winner. Different numbers and multiple distributions will determine your payouts.
How to Bet at European Roulette
Betting in European Roulette at online casinos, entails the player to bet on a specific number, a number combination, and the colors of the number, or whether the number where the ball lands are either odd or even. There are two components of betting in European Roulette, these are inside bets and outside bets.
You will be required to place your bet on any number from 0 to 36 on the table. Here are the different categories:
Straight Up – A player can bet on all numbers including zero. You will place your chips on the center of the number
Split Bet – A player can bet on two numbers next to each other. You will place your chips on the line between the two numbers. The wager is placed at maximum multiplied by two.
Street Bet – A player can bet on three numbers in a row. You will place your bet on the boundary line of the table at the end of the corresponding row. The wager is set at maximum then multiplied by three.
Other categories are the Square Bet or Four-Number Bet, Five-Number Line Bet, and the Six-Number Line Bet which are also set at maximum with the multiplier depending on the numbers you betted on.
Outside Bets
A player will place the bet outside the table layout such as Red or the First 12. These bets in this category are:
Column Bet – A player bets on one of the three vertical columns
Dozen Bet – A player bets on twelve numbers
Even-Money Bet – Stakes are placed on eighteen numbers; the chip is located on any of these squares: 1 to 18, 19 to 36, Black, Red, Odd, or Even.
What can I expect with Payouts?
Payouts for European Roulette depend on where you placed your bet and chips. The payout for a Straight-Up is 35 to 1, which means you get paid with 36 coins if you bet with just 1 coin. If you placed a Split Bet you will be paid with 18 coins since the payout is 17-1. Always keep in mind that whatever bets you make, you need to be focused on the game and stay sharp with betting decisions.
Strategies for Winning in European Roulette
Despite being a game of chance, there are strategies that can improve your odds of winning. As far as the more specific strategies are concerned though, go through the following to increase your odds with the welcome credits.
1. The Martingale Strategy
To make this strategy work, you will first need a table where they allow low minimum betting, but a high limit on the maximum betting amount. Bet small on odd/even, red/black, or high/low on your initial bet, and then follow the steps mentioned below:
- On winning, place the same bet second time
- On losing on the first spin or after losing for the first time, place 2x the lost amount on the same bet
- In case of losing on the consequent spin, double the wagered amount again and place the same bet as before
- On winning, minus the original wager from the total amount and only bet that initial small amount you had wagered
- Continue till the maximum betting limit is attained, or if you end up losing all your money!
The Reverse Martingale Strategy differs from the original Martingale Strategy in only two rules:
- You keep doubling only when you win
- You keep betting the same amount until you win
2. The D’Alembert Strategy
Begin in the same way as mentioned above while explaining the Martingale Strategy. This is to say, start by placing a small bet on odd/even, red/black, or high/low. Every time you lose, add one to the initial bet while deducting one after every win. The main advantage of the D’Alembert Strategy is the fact that as long as the player continues to wager as directed, and plays until they reach at least a 1:1; win: loss ratio, they will always be going home with a profit!
3. The Fibonacci Strategy
Discovered over a millennium ago by the famous Italian mathematician Leonardo of Pisa, this strategy utilizes the Fibonacci Sequence to drastically improve the player’s chances of winning big in European roulette. This is the most complicated of the ones mentioned here, so understand the Fibonacci Sequence well first.
The idea is to create a sequence of numbers (bets in this case) where only the first two are identical, but all of the following numbers are a total of the two numbers that preceded it in the sequence. For instance, if you start with a bet of £3, then the sequence will be 3, 3, 6, 9, 15, 24, 50, 74, 124, and 198 for the next ten bets. Now carefully take note of the rules mentioned next.
- Place the first two small bets on odd/even, red/black or high/low
- Every time you lose, just follow the sequence, as mentioned above
- Every time you win, go back by two positions on the sequence and place the resulting amount as the next bet
The Fibonacci Sequence is complicated, so don’t think you are in red or black, based on your win: loss ratio, but keep count of the differences in between to remain on top and walk away as a winner.
There is a lot more to learn, of course, but much of that will come from experience. We strongly suggest betting only low amounts initially, so you can get to grips with the strategies involved.
