An Autumn Affair – Meals To Try This Season

Autumn is upon us. The season with a cooler breeze and beautiful sunsets. The leaves will start turning brown and everything becomes covered with a golden hue.

The best thing about autumn is all the foods that go along with the season. Gone are the summer salads, instead indulge in meals that are rich and full of flavour.

Tomato Chutney

This is a staple for any autumn kitchen. It can be used in so many dishes and is really easy to make. It isn’t too sweet so it can be used for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Cheesy Mushrooms

A quick and easy vegetarian treat, a strong cheese like gorgonzola, mixed with some toasted walnuts, and stuffed into a large field mushroom and baked is an easy to make and quick meal. Serve with some rocket and you have a delicious dish or side dish!

Vegetable Soup with Cheesy toast

There is nothing quite as homely as a vegetable soup, but pair it with some cheesy toast and you have an autumn winner! You can pretty much be quite flexible on the vegetables you use in the soup, but tomatoes should be the base. Chickpeas, carrots, and potatoes are good fillers. Process them after cooking and you will have a warm, hearty soup. Rub some bread with garlic, grill and flip over, smother in cheese and grill until bubbly – there you have the perfect pair!

Baked Autumn Pudding

For a warming, fruity pudding, this is a must try. It is popping with autumn goodness and can even be made the day before. Mixed autumn fruit is baked inside a cake dome. It is best served warm and with a good helping of whipped cream.

Roasted Vegetables with Cheese

This one pan roasted veg can be a main meal or the perfect side dish on an autumn evening. A choice of autumn vegetables are roasted with some sage and balsamic vinegar. Once done, top the vegetables with some Lancashire cheese and walnuts. It is fall in a pan!

Butternut Soup with Chilli & Créme Fraíche

There is nothing quite as classic as a butternut soup. However, give this classic dish a twist by adding in some chilli and topping it with some fresh créme fraíche. It will be a hit with the whole family.

Butternut Squash & Sage Risotto

A meal that can be made on meatless Mondays, and is as hearty and homely as they come. Give a classic risotto an autumn twist with a dash of sage and a portion of butternut. It is also great to save for lunch the next day!

Wild Mushroom Tartlets

This is a wonderful dish to serve on those autumn afternoons. A light and crisp pastry bowl is served filled with a choice of cooked down mushrooms, made with parsley, parmesan and garlic.

Squash and Barley Salad with Balsamic Vinegar

Autumn doesn’t mean all salads are tossed out the window. This healthy salad is packed with flavour and can be served warm or cold. Pearl barley, roasted butternut, broccoli, tomato, pumpkin seeds, olives ,and capers come together with a balsamic vinegarette to make a perfect fall side dish.

Chicken With Ham, Basil and Beans

Sweet roasted tomatoes and garlic help make this dish the perfect dinner meal. Italian chicken is wrapped and cooked in ham, and topped with the tomato sauce. Serve with some cannellini beans for some volume, and top with some basil.

Pear and Blackberry Crumble

When you need a dessert to finish off your autumn evening, this is as good as it gets. Pear and blackberries are cooked under a crunchy pistachio topping, creating the perfect dessert. Serve with ice cream or cream for a perfectly balanced dish.
